Stainless Steel Balls: AISI-440C

AISI 440C stainless steel balls provide maximum hardness, toughness and dimensional stability. Highly resistant to rolling-contact fatigue. Perform similarly to tool steels and are ideal for antifriction bearings. Hartford supplies 440C balls for actuators, pumps and bearings. Available from 1mm to 50.8mm in grades 10 through 1000.
Chemistry
| Carbon | Chromium | Molybdenum |
|---|---|---|
| 0.95% – 1.20% | 16% – 18% | 0.75% max |
Characteristics
Achieves highest hardness following heat treatment: Rockwell C 58-62. Passivated to remove free iron contaminants and facilitate formation of a protective passive film.
Corrosion Resistance
Generally good resistance to mild acids, alkalis, foods, fresh water and air.
Typical Hardness
Rockwell C 58-62 measured on parallel flats.
Ball Sizes
Available in sizes from 1mm to 50.8mm in grades 10 through 1000.
Industries Using AISI-440C Grade Balls
Precision Bearings (antifriction bearings, rolling contact bearings), Industrial Pumps and Valves (actuators, pumps), Industrial and Manufacturing (high-load, wear-resistant applications), Fresh Water and Mild Chemical environments
Grades: 10 to 1000
-
Industrial and Manufacturing
Antifriction bearings, couplings, grinding media, conveyors, casters, industrial equipment
-
Pumps and Valves
Check valves, pump seats, actuators, quick-disconnect couplings, plug balls
-
Precision Bearings
Rolling element bearings, antifriction bearings, high-load bearing applications requiring max hardness
Lead Times
-
Standard in-stock components are available for immediate shipment. Lead times for non-stock and custom orders are determined based on specific part size, material, and required quantity.
-
Hartford Technologies specializes in high-volume production runs and industrial applications. We have a $400 minimum order value for all standard in-stock bearing balls. For custom-engineered parts and assemblies, the minimum is determined by the complexity and volume of the specific requirement.
