Stainless Steel Balls: AISI 304 (18-8) / 302

Stainless Steel AISI-304/302-18-8 Grade

Precision AISI 304 (18-8) / 302 stainless steel balls are used when conditions require corrosion performance and toughness not available in hardenable stainless steels. Principal applications are in couplings, valves and pumps. Available from 1.5mm to 50.8mm in grades 50 through 1000.

Chemistry

304SS:

Carbon Nickel Chromium Manganese Silicon  Phosphorus Sulfur

Characteristics

Low magnetic permeability: annealed 1.003, cold worked 1.10, severely cold worked 10.0. High tensile strength at elevated temperatures. Work-hardens rapidly. Passivated.

Corrosion Resistance

Resists attack by oxidizing solutions, foodstuffs, sterilizing solutions and most organic chemicals. Susceptible to halogen acids. Moderately resistant to sulphur acids.

Typical Hardness

Annealed: Rockwell B 75-95.
Not annealed: Rockwell C 25-39.

Ball Sizes

Available in sizes from 1.5mm to 50.8mm in grades 50 through 1000.

Industries Using AISI 304/302 (18-8) Grade Balls

Hartford Technologies AISI 304/302 stainless steel balls are specified across a wide range of industries and applications where general corrosion resistance, food safety, and non-magnetic properties are the primary requirements.

Grades: 50 to 1000

  • Medical and surgical

Valves, bearings, sterilizing equipment, medical devices, blood-contact components

  • Food and beverage

Processing equipment, valves, pumps, filling lines, dairy equipment

  • Health and beauty

Nail polish mixing beads, roll-on applications, dispensing equipment, aerosol agitation

  • Pumps and valves

Check valves, pump seats, actuators, quick-disconnect couplings, plug balls

Lead Times

  • Standard in-stock components are available for immediate shipment. Lead times for non-stock and custom orders are determined based on specific part size, material, and required quantity.

  • Hartford Technologies specializes in high-volume production runs and industrial applications. We have a $400 minimum order value for all standard in-stock bearing balls. For custom-engineered parts and assemblies, the minimum is determined by the complexity and volume of the specific requirement.
